Sporting Clay Shooting – Something for the whole family!
“Spend more time with your husband”, I said. “It will be fun”, I said. “You will be good at shooting sporting clays in no time”, I said. “It will be cheaper than scrapbooking”, I said.
I decided I needed to spend more time with my husband. Our daughter is now a teenager and more focused on her own entertainment. I am not a hunter so, that is out. I like to fish and go crabbing but not necessarily every weekend or enough to get up at 5:00 AM. (Why does it matter to marine life what time of day it is? They don’t have to be anywhere in the morning. Can’t they just sleep in?)
What does that leave? Sporting clays!
“I can do that!”, I said.
Well, not really. I do love spending more quality time with my husband and it is a fun sport (after you get used to days of pain from the kick of the shotgun). But, I stink! I only average about 6 or 7 out of 50! My record to date is only 14 out of 50.
As far as being cheaper than scrapbooking – wrong again! It is costing a fortune to learn how to do this. And, since my husband’s gun was too heavy, we had to buy a gun for me. Unfortunately, a new gun didn’t help. I still stink.
It is really fun despite the cost and did I mention that “I stink”. 😜 It’s great to spend uninterrupted time together in the great outdoors. (With the required hearing protection, you can not hear your phone notifications.)
As another plus, I have something more to blog about! Our next adventure is buying a gun for me that fits better. I picked a Benelli M2 the other day when we were window-shopping. However, I was told in no uncertain terms that I couldn’t own a Benelli before he did.
“Wellllll, if you loved me”, I said.
Here were are getting ready to go out on the course today.
We shot with two kids. One just finished 6th grade and the other 9th. Now, we are on our way to Bass Pro Shop for more gun shopping. It is pretty embarrassing to have a 6th grader shoot an adult 12 gauge gun when mine is a youth 20 gauge 😳
And, here is our teenager thrilled to death to be going gun shopping with us. 🤣🤣
Until next time…..(maybe I’ll have a new gun but probably not a happier teen)
